2026 Convention Social Justice Project
Help Support Two Los Angeles Area Organizations With Your Donations!
The Eaton Fire Collaborative
The Variety Boys & Girls Club
The Social Justice project for the WRJ 2026 Convention will support two very worthy organizations.
First the Eaton Fire Collaborative. The Collaborative is a group of local nonprofits, community groups, city, county, and state officials dedicated to helping those affected by the Altadena, Pasadena and Sierra Madre fires. Although almost a year has passed, so many families are still struggling.
The Collaborative Long-Term Recovery Group (LTRG) coordinates recovery services and mobilizes resources to assist individuals and families affected by the Eaton Fire. They’re committed to a survivor-centered, equitable, and locally driven recovery process. The Collaborative is a community hub dedicated to supporting the survivors with resources, community and a place to receive clothing and household items.

Our second organization is the Variety Boys & Girls Club in Boyle Heights, a community within Los Angeles. Boyle Heights is a predominantly Latino and Hispanic population whose median income is three times lower than the national average. Before World War II, Boyle Heights was a predominantly Jewish community with a vibrant, Yiddish-speaking community. And even as the demographic started to shift towards Latinos, Jews remained culturally and politically dominant after World War II. As redlining was pushing Jews out of Boyle Heights, leaders in the Jewish communities helped to empower the Latinos who either lived among the Jewish people or who worked together in the factories.
Since 1949, the Variety Boys & Girls Club has responded to the needs of children in the community by offering academic and leadership development programs, tutoring and mentoring, sports and aquatics programs, arts and crafts, a computer learning center and library, social recreation, college scholarships, and special events to award members’ achievements.
For this project we will be supporting the 2026 recipients of college scholarships. While the scholarships will help with tuition, the students still need school supplies and items for their dorm rooms.
For more information on the scholarship program click here. To support the College Dorm Wish List click here. This link will send you to the program's Amazon wish list where you can order your donated items and send them directly to the organization. Or you can purchase the items and bring them to convention. There will be drop off location in the registration area and in the Kikar.
