ICEBREAKER IDEAS
Coin Icebreaker:
Pick a coin and then tell what events in your life come to mind when you think about that year.
Sticker Icebreaker:
We all get many return address labels when we give to charities and often they include interesting and cute stickers. Gather all those stickers and add a few more from a craft store. As Board members come into the meeting, ask them to pick a sticker that expresses who they are (what kind of a person, etc.) and how it relates to what their job is in the sisterhood. Place the stickers on a nametag with their name. At the beginning of the meeting pair off and spend about 10 minutes sharing with your partners why you picked that sticker. Then each person reports back to the group on their partner. This gives you a chance to get to know someone you might not know or something about someone you already know. It also helps to explain sisterhood responsibilities and sets a great tone for the meeting.
Mn’M Icebreaker:
This is a fun and easy icebreaker to welcome newcomers and returning Sisters to a board meeting:
Everyone takes two different color Mn'Ms (use a bowl with a spoon so everyone's fingers aren't going into the Mn'Ms).
First, everyone picks one of the Mn’Ms and turns to someone they don't know to answer the following (based on the color of Mn’M chosen):
Second...Surprise! For the second Mn’M, answer the question corresponding to the color above, but in front of the entire group!
Setting the Tone Icebreaker:
Ask a “thought provoking question”. It can be about an upcoming event or about a past event. E.g., “What did you feel, learn or experience during the HHD services?” Then go around the room and let each person briefly answer the question. The opportunity to answer such a question at the beginning of a meeting really works to set the tone.
Teamwork Icebreaker:
Have everyone give an example of TEAM work - TEAM – Together Everyone Achieves More.
Birthday Icebreaker:
Have people line up in order of their birthday month and day and then in a group share something about their birthday.
Jewelry Icebreaker:
Take turns in a group to share something about a piece of jewelry you are wearing.
True or False Icebreaker:
Have each person in a group share three things about themselves -- one is an untruth. The group tries to guess which ones are true and which ones are false.
Trivia Icebreaker:
Brainstorm a list of questions related to your event/group and then give each person a sheet of person and have them interact with the rest of the group to find the answers. For example: Who has been a member of sisterhood the longest? How many people have brown eyes?
Woman of Valor Icebreaker:
Have the leader read “Woman of Valor” and then invite each person to say who her Woman of Valor is now and why.
Tree Icebreaker:
Circle where you are on the tree and share with the group why you chose that particular position. This can be used on many different occasions because our positions on the tree always change. See the tree page here.
