WRJ Accessibility Policy for District Events

Women of Reform Judaism (WRJ) is committed to modeling inclusion and diversity for our districts and women’s groups. At all board meetings, conferences, retreats, and other WRJ-sponsored events and meetings, we will keep universal access in mind, enabling those with visual, hearing and mobility impairment to participate to the fullest extent possible.
To the best of WRJ’s ability and where feasible, we will utilize technology and arrange for special services upon request to accommodate attendees with special needs, including, but not limited to:

- Providing accessible written materials, including large fonts and dark text font on light background free of watermarks.
- Digitizing handouts and other materials to send to those with visual and hearing impairments in advance.
- Utilizing speech to text technology (CART) or ASL interpreters for hearing impaired attendees.
- Using multiple methods and formats to communicate any changes in schedules, room assignments, presenters, and other such notices. Email, text message, social media channels, voicemail, hotel meeting area video text, sleeping room video text via television, written postings in a designated area, and verbal announcements during general sessions are all methods that can be used to notify participants of changes.
- Ensuring adequate space in meeting rooms for those in wheelchairs or motorized scooters as well as circulation space (including aisles) such that passing room is available for people using mobility devices.
- Offering accessible seating locations throughout meeting rooms so individuals with special needs have choices similar to the choices available to others.
- Providing vehicles that can accommodate wheelchairs and other mobility devices whenever utilizing group transport for off-site events.
